4 Simple Foods To Combat Stress


Key indicators of stress and anxiety:

According to The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the above symptoms are key indicators to feeling stressed or anxious. We don’t need to point out that these symptoms will negatively affect your performance, not just at work, but across all walks of your life.

We are not saying that work shouldn’t be stressful – sometimes this aspect gives you the drive you need in order to fulfil your full potential. However, it is all too easy to allow that stress to affect you negatively, culminating in a combination of the above key indicators. There are a number of well-known actions to undertake in order to benefit your mental health such as exercise and sleep. However, food is also a fantastic source to use in order to relax, stabilise your mood and focus your mind, and should never be underestimated. With that in mind, we have a few simple ingredients to aid in eradicating those negative feelings directly –


1. Garlic   

Organosulfur allicin, found in garlic helps to relax blood vessels – this will help in any tense situation.


2. Chewing Gum   

According to an Australian study, the simple act of chewing has been shown to relieve mild stress and increase alertness.


3. Dark Chocolate   

It has been shown that the antioxidant flavonoids in dark chocolate contain stress-fighting properties. Not that many of us need an excuse to enjoy this treat!


4. Yoghurt      

The Vitamin D and calcium within yoghurt have been shown to lessen stress and anxiety. Stick to natural yoghurt and add your own flavours using cinnamon, berries, nuts or seeds, or perhaps a dash of honey if you’re after that sweet kick.
