Back On Track After The Easter Excesses

After a bank-holiday weekend laden, probably, with chocolate and treats, how do you get back on track with your healthy eating?  

Let's assume that your healthy eating went out of the window this weekend. You may have had relatives to stay and nibbled on chocolates and treats that you don't usually do so throughout an average week. 

It doesn't matter what you overdid it on, the important thing is to get right back on track, get straight back on the horse and don't delay.

Having time off and allowing yourself treats is all well and good and lets face it, food is a huge pleasure in life. However, you will run into trouble if you continue with the treats, fail to reign in the additional high fat, high sugar snacks and nibbles.

Top Tips

  • Time limit your indulgences - this may be from Good Friday to Easter Monday and then you get back to your healthy eating on Tuesday.
  • Be firm with yourself and just buy the treats you need and want for the weekend. Ask yourself if you really need that extra box of chocs or extra bottles of wine or beer - have some for sure but don't overdo it because you will only want to eat/drink it.
  • Avoid grazing - stick with your usual healthy meals and snacks and add in a couple of treats each day but avoid grazing on the extra foods and drinks.
  • Be mindful of the foods you eat and the drinks you drink - this sounds simple, but it can be all too easy to graze without really thinking about it, leaving you in a state of shock and confusion when you step on the scales the following week.
  • After the bank-holiday weekend is over be firm with yourself and get back on track with your healthy eating.
  • If you have extra treats leftover get rid of them to avoid sabotaging yourself.
  • Plan and organise your healthy food for the coming week so it is easy to get right back on track.
