Celebrate Better Breakfast Month Every Month!

September was better breakfast month, but we thought why not celebrate this every month? Highlighting the importance of your first meal of the day and establishing a varied and delicious choice of dishes you can pick and choose from depending on your time available should be brought to attention all 12 months of the year!

Lots of people have a tendency to skip breakfast and scrimp on nutrition. Most of the time this is down to people not feeling they have enough time, or they are trying to lose weight, or they’re simply not hungry in the morning.

 

However, skipping breakfast each morning has a large knock-on effect of implications that you should consider:

  • Breakfast is essential in order to consume your required nutritional needs – Nutritionists believe that breakfast should make up ¼ of this daily intake. It has also been shown that those who eat breakfast are 2 – 5 times more likely that their breakfast-skipping counterparts to consume more of a variety of essential vitamins and minerals.
  • Breakfast enables your body to kick-start your metabolism. Trying to lose weight? Skipping breakfast will make this all the more challenging. Overnight, your body goes into a fasting, or starvation mode – this makes your metabolism slow down, forcing your body to burn calories at a much slower rate.
  • Research has shown that those who eat breakfast are less likely to be depressed, anxious and irritable.

 

With the above facts in mind, here are some handy tips and tricks to make your breakfast as easy, quick and simple as possible:

  • Something is better than nothing. If you are unable to dedicate 10 minutes to sitting at the kitchen table with your breakfast, even a quick orange or apple grabbed from the fruit bowl or something equally as convenient, this will benefit you more than skipping your first meal of the day. Just be sure to have a more substantial mid-morning snack to compensate.
  • To lessen the time burden in the morning, prepare breakfast the night before.
  • There are plenty of typical breakfast foods to choose from? But why not grab something ‘against the grain’? A chicken leg from last nights dinner or some veg crudités with hummus. High in protein and fibre, these choices will be sure to allow you to sail through until your mid-morning snack.
