Lent - What Are You Giving Up & How To Make It Simple February 18th - April 2nd

Lent is considered to be the most important festival in the Christian calendar, lasting for 40 days, starting on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. During this period, some people fast and others give up certain luxuries.

 

We see Lent as a fantastic opportunity to give up a certain food or drink, if not for good, then at least over the Lenten period. 

You can use Lent as an opportunity to change your habits. 6 weeks is just about the right amount of time to set new habits in place – this means that you might not even go back to your old habits!

 

So what will you be giving up?

  • Maybe coffee is your vice, and you rely on it in order to perk yourself up each morning? In order to kick this habit, it will be helpful to plan a replacement. Click here to view our full range of drink ideas. Once Lent is over, if you choose to return to drinking coffee, be aware that 4 cups per day is the recommended maximum amount to be consuming.
  • Office snacks might be off your menu for the next 6 weeks. This means that you’ll be passing on what seems like the daily birthday cake, and the alluring vending machine. Instead, pack some raw veggie crudités to take to work. It has been scientifically proven that the crunch that veggies such as carrot or celery give a distinct sense of satisfaction – quashing any unwanted cravings!
  • Perhaps you’re a chocoholic? Chocolate is often linked to emotional eating – so when you get that sweet craving, write down how you are feeling, and you may soon be able to recognise what situations or emotions make you crave it and will therefore enable you to tackle these head-on. Once lent is over, it may be worth considering swapping to good quality, dark chocolate, with at least 70% cocoa. Treat yourself to a square a day: This way, you will feel in control and you will truly savour it.
