National Employee Health And Fitness Day - 5 Top Tips For Business & Individuals

What is it?

National Employee Health and Fitness Day (NEHFD), is a national observance celebrated the third (3rd) Wednesday in May, and was created to promote the benefits of physical activity for individuals through their work site health promotion activities.

 

 

When is it? May 21st 2014

Even though NEHFD is a one day celebration, it raises awareness about the physical and fiscal benefits of establishing and maintaining healthy habits at work.

 

Top tips for business to promote NEHFD

  • Sponsor a healthy breakfast or lunch
  • Leave a piece of fruit on employee’s workstation
  • Host a “fitness walk” during lunch breaks; get the CEO to lead the walk
  • Invite a fitness instructor to offer before or after work demonstrations on May 21.
  • Book a healthy eating Buzz Session (workshop)

 

Top tips for individuals to celebrate NEHFD

  • Golden rule – eat 3 meals and 2 healthy snacks today
  • Drink your water – 1.5-2L’s each day
  • Finding it tricky to fit your exercise into your busy schedule? Then pledge to run/jog a mile a day. Short and sharp and takes from 6 to 15 minutes to complete. That’s your exercise done for the day.
  • If running a mile a day is not your thing but you are bored with your exercise then change what you are doing and find something you enjoy. Exercise should always change with the seasons (more light/less light) and this change will keep you interested.
  • Check your alcohol! Are you drinking more than the government’s recommended weekly units? 14 for women and 21 for men. If so then make the change and reduce your units. Get healthier and increase your longevity on the planet.
