National Work-Life Balance Week 21st-25th September

We all strive to balance our work-life with our personal life, but perhaps don’t always achieve this. Work-life balance week highlights the importance of this delicate balancing act to ensure that your wellbeing and your work-life are in sync with one another.

If these certain aspects of your life are unbalanced for whatever reason, then you may well find that you are not getting the most out of either. Your family and personal life may become restricted and savorless along with you perhaps finding it difficult to retain motivation and concentration when you’re in work mode.

This unbalanced way of life can feel overwhelming and stressful – further exacerbating problem areas. Despite this being the case, 23% of us are unhappy with our work-life balance. So why is this the case?

  • We put ourselves at the bottom of our priority list
  • We work too many hours
  • We skip meals
  • We don’t drink enough water
  • We have compromised sleep

The above issues contribute immensely to our quality of life. So without them, your quality of life suffers, making a desired work-life balance near enough impossible.

 

Here are a few facts to digest:

  • Drinking a glass of water can make your brain 14% faster
  • Regularly skipping meals puts you at greater risk of anemia, bone loss, thyroid function impairment, decreased immunity and worsening dental health
  • Regularly having compromised quality of length of sleep puts you at greater risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, depression and premature death
  • Long working hours statistically leads to higher levels of anxiety and lower levels of happiness

 

Simply, in order to achieve a perfect work-life balance, you need to prioritise yourself. By looking after yourself, you will feel and be at your best. Let’s face it, if you’re not on top of your game you’re no good to yourself or anyone else for that matter.
