What Is In Your Takeaway?

It’s no secret that Christmas shopping and decorating takes most of our time and attention throughout the festive season, therefore leaving your food planning lower down on your list of priorities.

It can seem difficult to find the time to rustle up a well-rounded meal, with it often being far more tempting to reach for the takeaway menu.

However, it is worth noting the average fat and sugar intake included in these dishes, as we’re sure you’ll agree, isn’t something that should be ordered on a whim…

The daily recommended intake of fat is 20g for women and 30g for men.

Indian foods are generally high in fat and Chinese foods high in sugar. It’s common to find a portion of Chinese takeaway containing the equivalent of 19 teaspoons of sugar. There are, on average, 23.6g of saturated fat in an Indian meal!

The average calorie content of takeaways is high - 1,338 for Indian food and 1,436 for a similar-sized Chinese takeaway. Pizza is again high, with a thin crust pepperoni pizza containing 22.5g of saturated fats.

A day’s worth of fat or sugar in just one meal cannot be ignored.
