Richard Hayes - This has been a real education with the application of healthy eating knowledge..

I took the decision to work with this programme because I was concerned about my health. I was on medication for high blood pressure and high cholesterol and had warnings from my GP about becoming a heart attack victim.

I am approaching 60 next year and of the age where it would not have been unexpected if I had collapsed of a heart attack. 

Prior to beginning this programme it seemed that no matter how much regular exercise or self-control I enforced my weight continued to grow. I was nervous and it was time to take positive action.

I now know that calories don’t really have an impact, it was not a matter of eating less but of eating the right stuff. This has been a real education with the application of healthy eating knowledge into a day to day basis, a real eye-opener. I now understand why I was unable to lose weight and how it is now possible. I also understand why I was constantly grazing and picking and why I was bloated and uncomfortable. 

To eat healthily it is all about the balance, a balanced diet is important.

There is a dramatic improvement in my health the bloated and uncomfortable feelings have all but disappeared. My self-esteem has grown. I am able to look and feel more confident in the way I walk around. I feel much more comfortable and no longer feel like I have a corset around my middle. I feel much better.

The foods you like are still there and available however you enjoy them even more because you only have them from time to time.

The programme is a journey through experiences through outcomes that give you the right results. I have learned a great deal about food and food groups and that even certain types of foods are beneficial. Also I have learned you can have too much of a good thing. To eat healthily it is all about the balance, a balanced diet is important.

You have to be determined. In the beginning it is quite difficult to make the changes, there is a bit of a hill to climb but once you get there it is surprising how you adapt. The foods you like are still there and available however you enjoy them even more because you only have them from time to time. This makes your favourite foods even more extra-special.

I had a steak and salad on Saturday and enjoyed the flavours in a different way because I can now taste more, my palette is cleansed.

Right now I am trying different foods. I am broadening my outlook to food and I am prepared to try different things to keep it interesting and importantly to keep myself fit and well long into the future.
